These technologies, while consistent with the performance of mobile phones and the explosion of mobile applications are not appropriate for communication between objects. A water meter that sends daily reports or a sensor that measures the city’s pollution requires far fewer resources that a person watching a video on a mobile.
Recently, various technologies have emerged which have enabled communications over long distances with very low-power requirements. For a modest cost, it is now available to connect thousands of objects that share a small amount of data daily. But is that a really Internet of Things? In fact, the relatively low interconnection with the Internet complicates service production.

Low-Power Wide-Area Network
LPWAN is a new family of radio technologies and networks. Low-Power: things can save energy and be autonomous for 10+ years, Wide-Area: a single antenna can cover several kilometers and can support tens of thousands of devices. A breaktrough achievement is in the principle of making Low-Power devices a first-order citizens and profit from extreme simplification of the infrastructure. LPWAN is an enabler for Internet of Things by reducing the transmission costs, both in licensed and license-free spectrum (ISM).
IETF and open standards
Acklio is an active member of the IETF standardization process for IP for LPWAN. The IETF standardization process is the one behind the success of the Internet - and the only one which has proven to build a scalable system capable of connecting billions of devices and remaining operational after 30+ years. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is a large open international community of network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture and the smooth operation of the Internet.
Acklio is leading an IETF working group for IPv6 standardization over LPWAN networks and submit drafts about IP for LPWAN and SCHC
SCHC is a compression mechanism to reduce CoAP/IPv6 headers to just a few bytes, which can then be transported over any LPWAN networks.
